I'm so proud of my brother, he is embarking on a succesful career, got his own house at queenstown and he found such a wonderful wife. I really thank God for leading him all these years. It just seemed like yesterday when we were at home playing badminton, using the brown sofa as the "net". We both grew up...got busy with school and ns... got a gf and now suddenly she's become his wife.

Well, the marriage was pretty interesting for me. A week before the wedding ceremony we had to bring the traditonal chinese dowry to her house. 2 candles, oranges and hongbao (i think). On the wedding day i had to transport a suckling pig up to her house. Man, that suckling pig was heavy and dripping with oil! I carried it up to the house and when i reached the door, my arm was cramped already...and then the dad couldn't get the gate open. The top latch was a bit stuck and so he twisted it left and right (slowly) to try to get it to open. That moment felt like eternity, with the suckling pig in both hands, my biceps were crying out for salvation from the pig.

After that, we had to help my brother with all the "tests" that the jie-mei prepared. Usual stuff..push ups, make my brother profess his love for her aloud etc..
Then the mom returned us half of the suckling pig. And hence, half of the suckling pig went back into the trunk of my rented toyota altis.

I was reunited with the suckling pig once again and our next task was to buy a cashcard before i could return back to pick up my sister-in-laws. I was worried that without a cashcard i could not enter the hotel carpark. So i spent 1/2 hr driving around..POSB stopped selling cashcards, petrol kiosk dun sell and 7-11 ran out of stock. All the while was afraid to drive too fast in case the pig behind overturn.

I arrived at the hotel late (sisters had taken another car to the hotel already). Pig and I went for another errand for my dad, then finally i went into the function room where the ceremony was held. Phew!

Well, it was a really memorable day. To be continued...episode 2: Me and the Toyota Altis.

Denizens of BB Campus

nasty looking lizard spotted outside bb campus..there seems to be a lot of monitor lizards here. this one i classify under 'M' size...

Breakfast @ Zion Road

This is my favourite breakfast happy meal - kway chap from 85 zion rd market. When you order the auntie selects the pieces and cuts them up onto a plate for you. You can have it with the usual "kway" or a udon-like noodle which is also another traditional way of eating it.

The coffee is $0.70 and is made by an old uncle, sometimes taste abit bitter but its the best coffee i've drank in singapore so far. This meal beats macdonald breakfast anytime, half the price and twice the satisfaction.

Burp...

yup..I was there.. anyone wanna try guessing where i was? I'm working at Wesley Youth Centre as a Programme Coordinator. This place has a long history which goes back to 1976 when it was established. It is supported by Wesley Methodist Church and is part of their social outreach to the community.

Anyway, the centre is located within BB HQ (Zion Rd). There is going to be some major changes to the centre but it is mainly functioning as a place where youths can drop-in. My job is to man the centre, plan and run programmes. These are some pics of the place.

This is my office table...kinda messy..

My office leads to the recreation room. Fortunately, John has learnt from experience and this time he has arrived at the airport at the correct time.

This is John - nicknamed Terminator - saying I'll be back x2 hahaha and Ivan is very funny also..."aahhhh"

Hope you had a good laugh.

David

Hello,

My blog has been quite neglected. Nowadays I just journal onto microsoft word when i feel inspired to hahaha instead of logging on and typing it onto my blog. Anyway, I have some unimportant updates to add. Firstly, i've got a new handphone. A sony ericsson 700i (now i owe my mom $298). It wasn't my idea to get this particular phone (i wanted any zero $ phone) but i really like it alot. It has a memory card slot, USB connection, plays mp3 and video, has camera that can take video.

And i've put it to use in the past week :) 20 July, wed night - John and I treat Wenkai to a birthday dinner at Billy Bombers. (Their burger and milkshake was great man) But of course there are no free things in life, after we eat "full full" already... we had a sabo, i mean challenge in store for him that evening muhahaha

*clap clap* happy birthday Kai

David

Wow..Didn't realise I have not blogged for such a long time.

Recent thots during prayer -

1. Psalms 1. Just felt that this is what I needed to do. Meditate on the word of God so that I may a "tree whose leaves does not wither", that I may be filled with the life of God all the time. Ready to give, ready to minister and be fruitful in season.

2. Have been seeking God for 2 mths past about my step in life, asking for Him to give me a job!! I have been to almost 10 interviews in various positions and places. The most outrageous position i was interviewed for was for "research assistant" and it was at Penharu Rd - right smack in the middle to Lim Chu Kang. Fortunately I met Dennis that day and he offered to drive me in if not i would have probably gotten lost in the midle of LCK cemetary. And the best part the job is not remotely related to anything "research". The centre was a animal-breeding facility for research use and they were looking for technicians to breed and care for the animals...Poor animals. Mice, rats, guinea pigs and 7kg rabbits - all albino breeds...

In my seeking this thought came to me. Why hasn't God given me a job..it is so simple for God to do so. He could do anything He wanted to. Why put me thru this process of praying and seeking..how good and convenient it would be if i had the answers straightaway! Then the thought came that God's priorities and mine were different. To me, getting a suitable job now was the most important and urgent requirement. And the Bible even says "seek the kingdom of God first and all things will be added to you."

But God's priority is our relationship with Him and developing us into His image. Something i don't quite yet fully understand. Perhaps that is the purpose of delayed answers and the purpose of the process of seeking. I remember reading from somewhere - Prayer doesn't change God it changes us...

Come to think of it, though this 2 mths i didn't have much money I have not been in lack either. I managed to land a part-time job just 5 mins walk from my house, at a cafe in an office building. work starts at 10, i leave the house at 9.55 haha shiok...and $5.50 hour, its really not a bad job.

Thank you Lord Jesus for your love and kindness
I feel I can only respond to your love by giving my life to you
To worship You
To give you more than words
To be a living sacrifice
Please refine me as I draw close to You
Be my all, my all consuming fire.

"What shall I render to the Lord
For all His benefits toward me?
I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people"

Psalms 116:12-13

Are there times when you read a portion of scripture, and though you may have read it a couple of times, but yet at that time that portion comes "alive" to you? And you think to yourself "hey, why didn't i see this before?" I read psalms 16 a couple of times but somehow this time the verses really speak to me.

O my soul, you have said to the Lord,
"You are my Lord, my goodness is nothing apart from You."
..O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup. Psalms 16:2,5

I thought this verses reveal something really beautiful when i meditated on them. The psalmist was saying that all his goodness - all the good things in his life, his good experiences or even his good lifestyle - were nothing without the Lord. All those things could not compare with the relationship with God

And to put it in a more powerful and deeper way, the psalmist goes on to say that the Lord was the portion of his inheritance. The portion of inheritance refers to the portion of land that is alloted to the Israelites. It represented the blessing of God, the fulfilment of promise to Abraham to bless his descendents. In short it's suppose to be the "ultimate best thing" but yet the psalmist says that he considers the relationship with God the "ultimate best thing" instead.

Amazing. powerful. May I consider the Lord to be the ultimate best thing too.

David

just came back from thailand. Was there to conduct training for the church planters with pastor Jonathan. This is not the first time i taught them but it was the first time i conducted an interview with them. But still needed pastor Jon to contribue during the interview too. This trip is also a learning trip for me.

The weather there was as usual cooling. As usual pastor picked us up from the airport, loaded our bags on his 4WD, the usual routine. This is the 7th time i'm meeting him. Spent one ful day conducting the training and conducted the interview at night. The following day was spent playing with John and fascinating his gang with my camera phone.

Life in the village is very simple. This period is the school holidays and for them it really means holiday. Holiday = no school. period. The kids spend the day playing and running around and they are amused with the simplest things e.g. taking a photo. The villagers know everyone else, the same generation literally grew up together in the village. They know how to take their time to sit down after a meal to talk. a normal daily affair for them, seldom heard of in busy singapore.

We stayed in a new extension to pastor Kitichai's bro-in-laws house. Comes complete with toilet and heater :) .

Some pics of John and his gang. Here's another one. And like the rest of the entries, it is a 100% true and non-exaggerated account...

Just a quick update, now my lab has shifted to the new labs in woodlands. The new place looks great. Designed by a japanese architect - hence its looks modern and zen-like. But the lab is still 90% done. Currently the contractors are still doing some touch up work (repairing defects and bloopers here and there)

So the story goes that one day i was in the lab unpacking and some Bangledeshi workers came in with some plastic sheets. One of them signalled to me and with a big friendly grin on his face, he said -

Worker"excuseme, brrragacaanwepudacovaondabrra"

Me: ? sorry come again? ( i walk closer to him, perhaps that will help)

Worker: "brragacaanweepudacova"

Me:??? (ok, walking closer doesnt help)

Then i notice him pointing to his friends who were covering everything in plastic sheets. So i could only conclude that he was gonna do some touch up work and wanted to inform us that he was gonna put sheets all over our stuff.

Me:" oh okok, yah no problem (i'm smiling and acting like i understood what he said haha)
do you need us to help with anything?"

Worker:'ahnoneed itsok." (shakes his head)

haha although i couldnt understand his bangla version english which sounds like talking a single sentence in machinegun speed..he won me over with his genuine smile and friendliness. Will definately remember this funny guy, hard-hat and all. haha.

David

These past week of packing lab has been really an experience. During my NS days i learnt a little known fact: Red ants eat termites. This week this little known fact came to good use because my storeroom became infested with TERMITES. ...

IT all started with my friend asking me for some help to clear some temites. And i thot "aiya, puny termites only..should be able to clear in awhile.." only until I reached the storeroom that i witnessed the full extent of the INFESTATION. They completely build a nest behind the boxes of lab supplies and completely chewed holes into the boxes.

They eat the boxes. Chew the tissue box inside. And reduce the stacks to tissue into - swiss cheese. really. no kidding, really look like swiss cheese. The best part was when i tried to lift up a fairly large box. I lifted it up, the box was in my hand but the contents was still in its original position haha. Can you picture that, the box was completely 'chui' already. And the box contents was caked with a layer of dirt and .... Termites.

I saw some RED ANTS outside the door and the little known fact came to my mind (Red ants eat termites). So took some of the boxes and dumped them outside and watched Discovery channel LIVE - Red ants vs Termites. Soon a long line of ants carrying termites could be seen leading from the box up the door. Few days later the ants raided the whole termite nest and cleared it out...phew...good job red ants...

My 2nd encounter was equally unexpected and more gross. Termite gross level about 4/10. This one i rate 7/10. I wanted to pour some chemical waste into a large waste container. I open the cap and saw A LITTLE WHITE WORM crawling away from the mouth of the container. I looked inside and guess what... the soup of waste was swimming with MAGGOTS. And they were all over the inner sides of the white container. I shake the container abit and i can see the groups of them scurry away. sick man

I dumped bleach into the container, gave it a good shake and watched the waste bubble away hahaha

ok better stop here i starting to sound like a mad lab man.

Western food menu

Seen at my house western food stall menu..

14. Lots of work to do in this period while my lab is trying to pack everything up for the move to woodlands. This week we are the only people left in RP save for the security guards and the cleaners. The place is like a ghosttown now. But at least my lab is near the sports facilities, students still come back here for sports.

Had a great time playing soccer yesterday here in RP with the guys. but my knees are hurting - I think i need to plan for early retirement from soccer soon. After soccer, went with marcus and lemuel to bedok 85 market. It was worth the travelling man..for the famous ba chor mee, chicken wing and satay bee hoon. Shiok! all of that for $6 per person.

Anyway, something traumatic happened last week. My friend and I borrowed a golf buggy to move stuff from the office block to our lab. On the last trip back to return the buggy to the security office..the new girl wanted to drive the buggy:

J:"oooo!! buggy wah so fun! I wanna drive!!"

Friend:" huh.. you can drive a not?"

Me: " You got license?" :)

J:" Don't have but i learn before! :D (pops into driver's seat)

Friend: (Looks at me) "how?"

Me:" ok la drive drive..(hmm wat could go wrong. only short drive up the hill)

wat could go wrong!? I was so wrong man. It was just a short drive uphill and then take a left turn. At the start i got a bad feeling already when she started driving very fast but yet her steering was not steady.

At the supposed left turn, she turned too much - until the buggy was almost making a U-turn - and she didnt release the accelerator. So the buggy went straight for the kerb. For that moment, everything seemed to happen in slow motion - my friend and i shouted "oooooeeeeeiiii....!!" and my hand reached for the steering wheel but was too stunned by the oncoming kerb...and BAM!!!

the buggy crashed into the kerb. and half of it landed ontop of it.

And before we could get it off the kerb the security guard came out and started shouting at us already. To cut the long story short, very fortunately we got off with a warning...

Totally traumatizing experience and amazing. Why amazing? I find this whole accident so amazing because, I mean, how can you just drive straight into a kerb? Normal person would react...rights anot. You will either step on the brake or steer right to adjust the buggy back..rights anot. She drives a motorcycle by the way...

Hiyo.......WOMAN DRIVERS!!!!

haha.. :p just kidding

David

suprise suprise i'm blogging

AH YUMMY..HOT CAKES AND BIG BREAKFAST! Big breakfast..ahhmm isnt most of it is just an unassembled sausage mcmuffin?

This is my latest post in 3 mths. I'm suppose to have updates on the Cambodia trip (anybody remember that?), Youth camp...etc.. But I'm struck with the inherent disease that is called Procrastination and the lack of Motivation to do any blogging..

Anyway that was my V-day breakfast. I had the hotcakes. :) at East Coast Macdonald. We drove there...thats right..I drove...a rented WRX!
Was a little suprised when the rental guy passed me this "zhnged" up WRX. It was fitted with all the stuff you would want in an ah beng car.

1. Turbo meters - though the car dun have turbo
2. Blue lights - even had two dice hanging from the rearview mirror which light up blue in color.
3. Front/back bumper and skirting
4. Suspension so low you can't even slip your hand under the car!! just kidding.
5. High-end racing tires!
6. Sports Rim

The car look really fierce man...fuel comsumption also v fierce. Only thing is going over hump cannot fierce must be turtle speed to avoid scrapping the front bumper which i did a couple of times. Front bumper was only like 5cm off the ground...and hence Leanne and I went out on V-day in this ah-beng car...

One of our destination was Mt Faber...First time I've ever been there. Nice view right?

But anyway it will be the first time and last time I'm ever be renting a car. I realised how ex it is to have a car. Suppose to make things easier for me but instead gave me endless stress.

I've realised I don't need a car to be happy too...
taxi bus and mrt is good enough :)

David

Cambodia - 1-6 Dec

GONE TO CAMBODIA FROM 1-6 DEC. I'm liking my blog more and more..i feel so relaxed looking at the beach and sea aaahh..haha. Last week was such an eventful week, if i were to blog everything i think it would as long as frontpage news.

Firstly, I want thank a few people...no.1 is my Almighty God for giving us good weather on 26 Nov.It had been raining the whole week but He answered our prayer and held back rain that day for us. Secondly, a big thank you to all the game leaders! You guys are so sporting haha actually we had been really looking forward to springing that suprise on you at the end. btw..the pic is what poor John Ng got haha it was meant for Jon Tan but he never come..oh well haha..we had to find another John.

Thirdly, thanks to Felicia for buying the prizes and the rest of the guys who came (Alaster, Quek, Edmund) and helped out with the wrapping, cutting of blindfold etc.. Let's pray that our friends that came will continue to come back to our youth group.

Last week, the weather very shiok. It practically rained everyday and it was cooling at night. On Tuesday night I decided to sleep on my sofa cos the living room was so cool. I turn on the fan and remove some of the pillows to make space on the sofa. Soon I was sound asleep underneath my blanket. But in the middle of the night i felt a presence beside me..near my leg...I felt like something was lying next to me...and it awoken me.

I took a peek...

Aaaah its my cat! Why he come squeeze with me on the sofa??? Normally you would think "awww thats so sweet..the cat wants to cuddle up to the owner...." but it didnt feel like that man cos got no space for my legs to stretch out on the sofa with him lying there.

I try to nudge him away with my leg and then i heard the sound of claws digging into my blanket and sofa. "ah! you naughty cat" I smack his backside which was facing me and nudge him some more. Finally he got the message - this sofa has enough space for only one to sleep. I watched him walk out of the room as i slowly faded back to sleep...zzz

Suddenly i was awoken again..."eh how come my body feels cold but my feet is so warm!?"
I look down
Aaaaah! He came back! my cat was happily snoozing at my feet again. This time i give up..just let him sleep there and try to sleep with my legs curled up hai..

to be continued...(have to eat lunch now)
David

Thanks!

Many thanks to Jeremy who help me setup this new blog design! Practically my whole cell is going - marcus, lemmi, john ng and justus. Really looking forward to the trip. There's no need for sleeping bags for this trip cos we'llbe staying in a hotel haha :)
Please pray for us. Pray for our protection, pray that we may be used to impact the people there, pray for God's guidance for our team daily.

Right after we come back, the next day i have IPPT in the morning argh. I used to weigh 69kg in May. Now I'm 74 kg..I think i'm going to fail everything haha if only they have sit&reach as a station then maybe i can pass that.

Lastly, please pray for 26 Nov. Pray for the friends that are coming. Pray also for good weather because there is no wet weather program. Hmm my blog entry has become a prayer request list.

.
David

Sec 4s

December is coming soon when the sec 4 brothers will unite once again with the return of Tian wei and John Ng Lip Tjin.

I still remember how we form this "sec4" gang. At first when I came back to church I havent got to know Wenkai and Ivan. Then Eng Kiat intro me to them at Downtown East Chalet. I remember that I had lots of fun there. We challenge Eng Kiat to play basketball and Ivan (although only 16 then) already know how to suan people haha. I couldn't stop laughing because Ivan challenge Eng Kiat - " I let you shoot 10 times, confirm won't go in one" Everytime Eng Kiat shoot i just stand there and laugh.

Of the 6 of us, i know dennis the longest. As far back as i can remember, he was like the first person i make friends with in church. I can still remember that on HIS birthday he gave ME my first tamiya car hahaha. (no mistakes in that sentence)

Then John Ng joined our cell. At that time my mom was my sunday school teacher. Do you know how stressful that is to be have your mom as your sunday school teacher? I can't play a fool in cell etc..deprived childhood. Anyway John was very funny. He form a gang with a few other guys and they lock themselves up in one of the small rooms and form a fortress with the chairs and tables. I went into the room once and kana attacked haha..incidentally i think some of the powerhouse kids still do that...

hai. Sometimes wish i can be 16 again..no worries. Just study and look forward to end of exams and holiday. Come holiday play as if the world is ending tommorow. Now 24 years old already. I feel so old now when it seems that not too long ago I was 16...

Anyway, no one can turn back time. Thank God for all the good memories and my great bunch of brothers and sisters. Pray that we will go from strength to strength, from glory to glory. :)

David

Tsunami aftermath - divine insight (mus read)

Hi, this is an article i ripped off from www.livinglilies.org - the website of a respected and proven prophet Mr. Jedidiah Tham. I though it is a really good read that offers divine insight into the not too distant tsunami catastrophe. After I read this, I feel that my perspective of things is just so small. I hope that by reading this, you will gain a bigger perspective of things and be excited at what God is doing in the world right now :)

The whole world mourned over the recent sudden massive destruction of homes and lives. The once joyful mood associated with the post Christmas and New Year seasons was abruptly disrupted. We either can join the world in grieving over the tragic event that took place or, with some insights, see this tragic occurrence as a major prophetic signpost for the coming activities of heaven upon this earth. Therefore, we ought to be vigilant in prayers and be watchful over the coming activities of “sudden shakings”. Prayer watches for the nations shall sprung up all over the world to create cities of refuge against the fury of the storms of life. There is going to be a major shakings in the coming years that will rip the old wineskins of well-defined traditional Christianity.

The catastrophic event that took place in the Indian Ocean was caused by the shifting of two tectonic plates: one (the India plate) descends and dives under another (the Burmese plate). According to the US geological survey, “the December 26 earthquake occurred as the result of thrust-faulting.”

The coming years, we shall see a “major shifting” within the arena of Christianity. This coming new season of favor shall witness a major shift in the leaderships of global Christianity, as well as a radical shift in the methodologies and approaches that have been used by the Church at large. In short, just like the seismic movement of the tectonic plates that result in major changes in the natural landscape (or seascape), we are going to see major changes in the entire structure and “landscape” of Christendom.

The old season shall make way for this new season (of 7 years) of intensified preparation for the Joel’s army. The old guards and fathers of the past movement (Moses) shall descend, and graciously paved the way for the emerging “Joshuas”, to allow the continuity of the move of God on planet earth. The sowing of prayers of the past generations is now ripe for the coming manifestations of the Son of God upon the earth (Rom 8:19).

The epicenter of this recent earthquake occurred at a depth of 30 km below sea level at about 160 km (100 miles) off the western coast of northern Sumatra. The springs of revival of 2005 shall flow initially in a subterranean (hidden) manner, in obscure places that are unnoticed by the causal masses of popular Christianity. The number “30” speaks of maturity. As the revival fires pick up speed and gather momentum (matures), the river of glory will release mighty torrents of glory fires that will trigger a worldwide revival

The underwater seismic activities also caused a huge volume of water to be displaced and be pushed towards the coastal areas of nine nations surrounding the Indian Ocean. (Incidentally, these countries are part of the “10-40 window prayer zone”.) The impact also radiated to the east coast of Africa, about 4,500 km (2,800miles) west of the epicenter. Altogether, 12 nations were affected or felt the effect of this seismic activity, namely Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The shock waves of the earthquake were also felt across the planet; it even reached as far as Oklahoma in America (vertical movements of 0.12inches (3mm) were recorded at 7.36pm, OGS Observatory, Tulsa). The coming tsunami waves of glory and revival fire shall have the same effect as the recent earthquake (in magnitude) – it will reach and touch the entire world.

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab 2:14).

In particular, the two continents of Africa and Asia shall burn brightly with revival glory. Many mighty men and women of great stature from this part of the world will be raised up in honour, and be anointed for the last days’ ministries.

According to a recent article by the Tsunami Society, the total energy of the tsunami waves is about 5 megatons TNT. This is more than twice the amount of explosive energy used during World War II (including 2 atomic bombs). This will definitely ignite the mighty power of God, producing signs, wonders and miracles on the face of this earth. The coming healing revival is the direct result of the energizing and manifestations of the Holy Spirit. The torrential force of the river of glory shall be irresistible and its influence and impact shall reach the ends of the earth. According to the vision of the prophet Percy Collect in the 1970s, he saw the river of life coming from the throne to the New Jerusalem, out of a certain dam-like structure, and was poured ceaselessly into the earth releasing global revivals. Those who resisted the next move of God shall be swept away and those who embraced it shall bring healings to the nations (Ezk 47: 1-12).

You can read more from his website.
Adapted from www.livinglilies.org (without permission) please don't sue me!

David

thoughts

Just thinking about the leader's retreat we just had from wed-thurs. I think it was a really fun retreat. Firstly, that chalet is huge. They should call it a bungalow instead of chalet. There's a main hall and kitchen on the first floor which incidentally is about the size of my lab. On the 2nd floor got TV area where we play xbox. And foor airconditioned rooms with toilets. wahh wish I could have stayed for another day to challenge ghost recon or fifa on that xbox haha

But it is in a really ULU location. The map that showed the chalet is so deceiving - why am I always being duped by deceiving maps and vouchers?? - the road to the chalet is like so straight and the distance from the bus stop is so friendly. Lucky we took a cab in, i think we spend like $1+ turning round in circles trying to find the place. Fortunately, uncle Kim Soon stop alongside us to pick us up..phew

The BBQ food was great. Didn't know Quek had such talent in marinating bbq food. Was raining so we had bbq under the porch using portable bbq pit which I'm proud of because it is the proud invention of a few ingenious JG guys. Namely, me haha, kai and daniel. We invented it while trying to figure out how to have bbq on sentosa. Somehow after we did that 7-eleven started selling the same thing - Pre-packed tin foil tray with mesh and charcoal - maybe they copy our idea haha just kidding.

Hope we can have more of such retreats. My conclusion is that to have a 100% fun retreat, you must have the following ingredients -
1. Great bunch of friends
2. Big bungalow
3. Delicious BBQ
4. Xbox

Looking forward to the plans we have for next year. :)
Dave

argh...

I'm feeling really stupid now. Last night, while we were kicking the ball around at the court I stepped on the ball and fell down. I heard my ankle went pop! and I knew I'd sprained my ankle already.

Then when I went home I hobble around on one leg and I think i twisted my knee. The next morning when I woke up I felt funny like my knee was swollen. Turn on the lights - wah swollen knee - hence I'm stuck at home on a sunday.

Firstly, I just feels wierd to miss church service. Secondly, i'm very bored now. Thirdly, got not much food and snacks at home. argh...why did I step on the ball??? Should I go to work tommorrow...??

Ok end of complaint.

renovation in progress

Well..the tagboard is up now..like a blue pond in the middle of a green meadow. And just thot of putting up some photos to spice up the page. The smaller pic is taken in thailand. Pastor Jon and I were having coffee at Doi Tung Cafe...its at a small tourist spot up in the mountains where we were having our mission trip. I can still remember the cool mountain air...kopi-peng and wooden chairs and tables. If you're wondering who took this photo - its Leanne. The other pic was taken during Terence & Huiling wedding. I waited for everyone to clear the sanctuary before taking up the courage to ask her to take photo with me haha...

Was watching tv the other night and happened to switch over to MTV for awhile. This reality tv program was about to end but I had no clue what this show was about. All I could gather was that this guy, called John, was leaving his team. Apparently its like some game where a group stays in this castle and plays games together. Each week someone gets voted out, something like survivor.

Anyhow when I switched to that channel, John was leaving the castle and they were interviewing him and the reactions of his group.

John, spotting a cowboy hat, was quite nonchalent bout the whole thing - "It's sad that I had to leave but well, I guess it's for the good of the group that I go..i had lots of fun blah blah." Then I realised this guy was a Christian. The camera zoomed in on him while he saying goodbye to the rest (who were behind a cage fence..). Written in bold, across his T-shirt was "JESUS IS REAL"

Then they interviewed the girls. The reaction of the girls in the team was more dramatic. They were crying and saying that he didnt deserve to leave but he chose to sacrifice himself for the good of the team. Another girl was tearing non-stop and saying how John any of the other guys could have "stepped up and sacrificed themselves" but they "freakin didn't", the rest of the group didn't even appreciate fully his actions and his beliefs and what he stood for. As they were saying goodbyes another girl said - it's so sad that he had to leave. He's such a nice guy and we couldnt even hug him!" (because of the cage fence..hard to explain..they were in a castle)

I thot to myself - Wow...this Christian made such an impact on some of his team members. That was a really testimony for Christ - in his time that he had contact with this group playing the game, he left such a mark on them. I could tell from their reactions they really liked him, not because he was handsome or talented, but because he was a really nice, admirable kind of guy.

I really admire him for that and hope that I can live a life like that too. That by my life, I can leave behind a good testimony for Jesus with those whom I come in contact with. To exhibit God's kindness and His REALNESS, that Christianity is not an empty religion, full of don'ts that it's members must adher to - but to exhibit that all that we are, comes from within us, Christ living in us and changing us into His lifeness.

David

Shift house

Hello,

Welcome to my new blog...the old one was looking really bland and i've tried almost every single template they could offer. and i don't know any HTML programming so..oh well...hence I've moved to a nicer looking blog space.

I've moved some of my old entries over cos this blog thins is like a journal for me. Anyway, i think its almost 100% for me...

The Mechanic

As an ISTP, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you deal with things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is external, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion.

ISTPs have a compelling drive to understand the way things work. They're good at logical analysis, and like to use it on practical concerns. They typically have strong powers of reasoning, although they're not interested in theories or concepts unless they can see a practical application. They like to take things apart and see the way they work.

ISTPs have an adventuresome spirit. They are attracted to motorcycles, airplanes, sky diving, surfing, etc. They thrive on action, and are usually fearless. ISTPs are fiercely independent, needing to have the space to make their own decisions about their next step. They do not believe in or follow rules and regulations, as this would prohibit their ability to "do their own thing". Their sense of adventure and desire for constant action makes ISTPs prone to becoming bored rather quickly.

ISTPs are loyal to their causes and beliefs, and are firm believers that people should be treated with equity and fairness. Although they do not respect the rules of the "System", they follow their own rules and guidelines for behavior faithfully. They will not take part in something which violates their personal laws. ISTPs are extremely loyal and faithful to their "brothers".

ISTPs like and need to spend time alone, because this is when they can sort things out in their minds most clearly. They absorb large quantities of impersonal facts from the external world, and sort through those facts, making judgments, when they are alone.

ISTPs are action-oriented people. They like to be up and about, doing things. They are not people to sit behind a desk all day and do long-range planning. Adaptable and spontaneous, they respond to what is immediately before them. They usually have strong technical skills, and can be effective technical leaders. They focus on details and practical things. They have an excellent sense of expediency and grasp of the details which enables them to make quick, effective decisions.

ISTPs avoid making judgments based on personal values - they feel that judgments and decisions should be made impartially, based on the fact. They are not naturally tuned in to how they are affecting others. They do not pay attention to their own feelings, and even distrust them and try to ignore them, because they have difficulty distinguishing between emotional reactions and value judgments. This may be a problem area for many ISTPs.

An ISTP who is over-stressed may exhibit rash emotional outbursts of anger, or on the other extreme may be overwhelmed by emotions and feelings which they feel compelled to share with people (often inappropriately). An ISTP who is down on themself will foray into the world of value judgments - a place which is not natural for the ISTP - and judge themself by their inability to perform some task. They will then approach the task in a grim emotional state, expecting the worst.

ISTPs are excellent in a crisis situations. They're usually good athletes, and have very good hand-eye coordination. They are good at following through with a project, and tying up loose ends. They usually don't have much trouble with school, because they are introverts who can think logically. They are usually patient individuals, although they may be prone to occasional emotional outbursts due to their inattention to their own feelings.

ISTPs have a lot of natural ability which makes them good at many different kinds of things. However, they are happiest when they are centered in action-oriented tasks which require detailed logical analysis and technical skill. They take pride in their ability to take the next correct step.

ISTPs are optimistic, full of good cheer, loyal to their equals, uncomplicated in their desires, generous, trusting and receptive people who want no part in confining commitments.

dehwid

Deception Part 2

Ok, the following is part 2 of the previous blog entry...After I read the messed website. I decided to contact the author and his wife through email with my questions to challenge their views. And this is our email exchange..(Warning: It's long. Disclaimer: He is the lor so one not me)

From: David Tay [mailto:david_tay@rp.sg]
Sent: Friday, September 23, 2005 2:26 AM
To: info@tentmaker.org
Subject: Questions on hell

Dear Gary and Michelle,

I’m David. I have been a Christian for several years. I live in Singapore (SE Asia).

I came across your website while surfing the internet and read your articles concerning the subject of “Hell”.

I find your article very interesting but my years of Christian upbringing have painted a different picture of hell. One which your article has failed to convince me that hell is not an actual place of suffering and judgement. Leaving aside the discussion of who will end up there for the time being, I would like to find out more on your belief.

There are several places in the Bible which mention “Hades” or “hell” or a place of judgement. These are just 3 which I can think of right now:

In Luke, Jesus mentions in the story of Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man was in Hades a place of torment. There is no reason to believe that this is simply a ficticious parable but Jesus was giving an account of a real occurance.

In Revelations, there is mention of the “Lake of fire” which is once again a place of torment and final judgement.

In the gospel, Jesus speaks of judgement, how God will separate the sheep and goats. The goats “will go away into everlasting punishment..”

I didn’t quote the chapters/verse since I’m sure that you would be familiar with these passages having studied the Bible extensively. We can’t interpret the truth of God from a single verse or assumption. If it is a truth, it will be consistent throughout the whole Bible. I find that the above few verses contradicts your viewpoint that is why I cannot accept your article.

You can refer to me to your articles/relevant discussions and forums but I would love to hear from you personally regarding this. Thanks and God bless.

David

His reply:

From: Gary Amirault [mailto:tentmaker7@mchsi.com]
Sent: Friday, September 23, 2005 11:59 PM
To: David Tay
Subject: RE: Questions on hell

Hi, David, good to meet you. May I ask if you are Chinese or are you a Westerner living there? Do you speak Chinese? The reason I ask is that we are looking for some translators into the Asian languages.

You wrote:

I didn’t quote the chapters/verse since I’m sure that you would be familiar with these passages having studied the Bible extensively.

Gary:Yes, I am very familiar with those passages, far more familiar than the opponents to the message of universal salvation. I’ve studied them for over 15 years now and am quite convinced a Hell of eternal torment is NOT taught in the original languages of the Bible and the only reason YOU believe in Hell is because of your Bible translation and the tradition you have been taught about Hell. Surely God, nor the prophets, nor Jesus, nor the apostles have given you reason to believe in such a contradictory message as Hell.

Obviously, David, I can’t prove all the points in a brief email. We have lengthy books dealing with every single verse used to prove Hell and every single verse that proves universal salvation. For this email, I’ll simply address the one word sometimes translated Hell which you referenced: hades.

Hades is the Greek equivalent to the Hebrew Sheol. Do you realize, the leading Bible translations now no longer translate either Sheol nor Hades as Hell? Almost all of them have abandoned Hell as the meaning of Sheol and hades. Why? Because it never was hell to begin with. The Roman Catholics and early Reformators mistranslated this word and better scholarship is now wising up to that fact. Hell is shrinking. The KJV had the word in it only 54 times through the whole Bible. Today, it’s scarcely there in the leading sellers and not at all in many other English translations. We are trying to get this better scholarship into the Asian language groups. They are unaware of this and I believe it would make Christianity MUCH more viable and believable if this new info came out for them. We are working on an article specifically addressing this issue for Chinese. May I suggest you go to the Scholars Corner page of our site and ask the Holy Spirit if there is a book or article there you should be reading?:

http://tentmaker.org/ScholarsCorner.html

Now here is a brief article showing the condition of the Bible in its various forms in English. As you can see, if Hell is a certainty, there is certainly nothing certain about it considering the way the Hell words have been translated in English translations. Hell is surely disappearing in English translations, as it should. It’s a blight on the character of God and makes Him appear to be a hypocrite commanding His disciples to overcome their enemies with love while he consigns His to eternal tortures. Jesus called such behavior a hypocrite. And millions of non-believers see the God of Christianity as a hypocrite and His people here on earth perfectly reflect his own hypocrisy. When Hell leaves the teachings of the Church, the teachings of Jesus will once again shine like the noonday sun. Let me know if I may be of further service to you. Peace, Gary Amirault, founder, Tentmaker Ministries and Publications.

Hell is Leaving the Bible “forever.”

By Gary Amirault

Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. (Matt. 15:6, KJV)

The word "heaven" appears in the Bible hundreds of times. If "Hell" is the fate of those who do not accept Jesus as their Lord, how often do you think God should put it in the Bible Scriptures warning all the citizens of the world the consequences of failing to accept Jesus as their Savior? As least as many times as the word "heaven"? At least once in each book in the Bible? Thousands of times? The FACTS may shock you. If salvation was deliverance from a place called Hell which all human beings are automatically destined to go to unless they get “born again” and stay true to Jesus’ teachings, wouldn’t it be wise for the author of the Bible to place that warning everywhere? Check your version of the Bible. See where the word Hell first appears. Why isn’t it right in the first book of the Bible, if indeed that is the fate of all those who are born into this world apart from Christ. And why did God wait thousands of years AFTER the original sin before He sent the solution to sin? See where the phrase “everlasting punishment” first appears in your translation (and it only appears once) and ask yourself why does it appear so infrequently and so late in the Bible?

I hope this short work will cause the reader to ask themselves many questions they’ve been afraid to voice. Our Father’s plan of redemption is FAR more wonderful and successful than “tradition” and “orthodoxy” has taught us. May this little article crack the walls of traditions which have hidden the light of the glorious gospel from the reader’s understanding. Now let’s “study to show ourselves approved,” and see how great the salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Messiah really is!

blah blah blah blah x10000 (articles from his website)

From: David Tay [mailto:david_tay@rp.sg]
Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 5:56 AM
To: Gary Amirault
Subject: RE: Questions on hell

Hi Gary,

I’ve just gotten the chance to read your email. Thanks for the reply but it is a really long email that would take me some time to read.

Since all the points can’t be proven in one email then it’s alright. I just have one question: how trustworthy are the translations that you have mentioned?

I’ve read some of the articles you posted in the email but I’m still not convinced because the whole concept of universal salvation doesn’t seem to fit together completely.

If there is no hell or judgement, why did Jesus have to die for our sins? What did God have to rescue us from if we are not destined for an eternity in hell?

If I can understand your view on God correctly: You believe that God is a loving God. It would contradict that loving nature if God were to condemn people to eternity in hell.

If that is so how can God be a God of justice? There is so much injustice in the world. I don’t mean to be insensitive, the terrorist that planned the attacks against your country are evil men. Many innocent lives were lost in the Sept 11 attack. I can imagine it left many families fatherless. You mean God forgives even those that do not acknowledge him, even those evil men?

I believe God is a just God but his justice is tempered with love and mercy. But still God had to bring judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah, on the Ancient world in Noah’s time, on Ananias and Sapphira. The children of Israel were God’s instrument of judgement on the Canaanites, this was stated very clearly in the book of Exodus to Deutoronomy. God did not give victory to the Israelites because of their righteousness but rather it was the sin of the Canaanites that which had reached the full measure that brought God’s hand on them.

Anyway, I don’t mean to offend you. I wrote this email to you as I’m interested in your views since you have studied the Bible extensively as well.

Thanks,

David

His reply again...

Thanks for your reply. You asked a couple of good questions, which, if you thought it through yourself, I’m sure you would have come to this same conclusion.

Yes, justice is important. Tell me, is it just for a mother to kill her child for stealing a piece of candy? Millions of Christians have been taught this is justice? Is it right for God to consign the entire planet to eternal damnation simply for being born into this world (Doctrine of Original Sin)? Well, millions of Christians have been taught this is just AND the leaders who have perpetuated this teaching claim they get it from the Bible. Is it just to punish a sin committed in finite time with eternal punishment? Even human beings as corrupt as we are find it difficult to sentence a person to death. Few decent human beings could bring themselves to torture someone forever. Professional torturers can’t handle too much torturing before they themselves get sick and that after only a few hours. Our own makeup tells us something is radically wrong with the concept. Besides, in corrected translations, the concept simply disappears from the Bible. The FACT is the Bible in the Hebrew and Greek doesn’t teach it. It’s that simple. As to your other arguments:

http://tentmaker.org/FAQ/index.html

Keep in touch. Peace, Gary

“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will drag (that’s what is says in the Greek) all mankind unto myself.” John 12:32

Let me know what you think haha...

Deception Part 1

Hmmm..I realised that my blog is exactly like my bedroom...looks boring and untidy and seldom visited haha.

Its a friday evening and I'm now sitting in my lab with time to burn (hence I'm blogging). My head is swimming with chemical names now from a whole week of typing chemical data into a spreadsheet. Somehow I managed to finish my work on monday then my boss saw me idling around (for about 5mins)

Boss: David ah, can you help me update the chemical list? Update this file into the database..

Me: ok lor. (ok la easy-peasy..one file only)

Boss: And take all these files with you to update also (5 files lying on the floor)

Me:...

So this whole week has been spent infront of my laptop. It's supposed to be another guy's job but he came for 3 weeks (and did nothing with the spreadsheet) and then got "transferred out" Anyway I'm not complaining..just describing my work for this week. I've been 5 months on the job and I'm really happy working here at RP. Somehow, there are still some people who think I'm still a student so when I mention I'm at RP they think I'm studying there. Not sure if thats good or bad, it either means I look really youthful...or I don't act my age ha ha..

I got really bored typing the chemical list and in between took some breaks to surf the net...I got so bored I found this website with lots of games and funny stuff

www.i-am-bored.com

Occasionally I check my gmail...and my hotmail...and my redundant yahoo.com

I go read news on www.yahoo.com and channelnewsasia.com

and finally i got so bored, i search for random stuff on www.google.com

And i found this website and article which i thot was pretty good..Why does God allow suffering in this world from www.tentmaker.org
So I continued to read their articles on hell

http://www.what-the-hell-is-hell.com/HellArticles/TheTruthAboutHell.html

and hey!..something's not right here le. I don't tell you whats wrong with it first...if you got time click on the link and read and see if you spot anything amiss. Don't worry...you don't have to be a pastor or reverend to see that there's something majorly wrong with the article.

So i checked back on the innocent looking homepage and realised this is one messed up website!!!

It turns out that the author (and his wife) believe that God is love. In fact, so loving that He will save everyone. Salvation is universal and nobody will go to hell. If you think this is messed up check out these 2 other websites:

Pastor in philipines who claims to be the Son of God (!!??) - http://www.kingdomofjesuschrist.org/

This reminds me of an incident...once i got a free movie voucher which came with a tear-off voucher for popcorn+drink combo. So i happily claimed the movie tickets and went to get the popcorn combo. After the counter guy pass me the drink and popcorn he stared at me. I was like - why are you looking like that at me for?.

"Sir, that would be $5."

"Huh? I thot i use the voucher?"

"No, this voucher allows you to buy the combo at the price of $5."

He showed me the fine print on the back of the "voucher"...argh! Its so DECEIVING! the tear-off didnt even put $5, it just put a picture of a popcorn and drink and the words in bold POPCORN COMBO! Anyway, i paid the $5 so as not to lose face ha ha

Whats the morale of the story?? Always read the FINE PRINT! Don't ever be DECEIVED! Don't just readily accept any preacher or article, no matter how eloquent or convincing they may be! (Unless of course they are trusted people like Rev Reinhard Bonnke or wat) Listen and read carefully, read and study the Word of God for yourself!

Thats all for now :D

David

Zeal

Whats happening in my life now -

1. Hair on top of my head is thinning.

2. ORDing soon in 3 mths time and getting anxious because i'm still looking for a job

3. Driving regularly now. starting to get the hang of it. sometimes learning how to be pai kia driver (especially overtaking other vehicles)

4. Studying at Theological Centre of Asia now. Really enjoying being a student and best part of it is studying God's Word in-depth. The place is at adam's rd, real far for me though. I always miss my dinner to get there in time

5. Planning for JG worship ministry.

Ok that's about it. :D Just a short update for anyone who is reading this blog

Recently, I have been reading OT Exodus, Numbers, Deutoronomy and it contains a lot of laws that God laid down for the Israelites. The condition of God's blessing and covenant relationship with Israel, demanded obedience to his law. Now these laws are not applicable literally to us but I believe there are spiritual lessons and principles in them.

One of the laws that have puzzled me is this - God states that if ANYONE; a close family member, an entire town and even a prophet who performs signs and wonders, were to try to lead you to worship other gods - That person or city is to be put to death by the sword or stoning.

And it reads (i think in Deutoronomy) "You are to show no pity...your hand must be the first to put this evil out of Israel". What if it was your close family member that tried to lead you astray?Imagine having to be the first to cast the stone at your wife to kill her!! Now that sounds like a really cruel punishment for those who broke this law.

But the lesson for me here is that God wants us to love Him PASIIONATELY, and with ZEAL. To put the relatiionship with Him above all else. Anything that is a hindrance, be it a sin, a relationship and object of worship, that comes between you and God - You are to show no pity to it but to get rid of it. We must be cruel with sin.

That is what I really want now above everything else. To be passionate for God like the very first time I was filled with the Holy Spirit.

David

"For zeal for your house has consumed me..." It was great. You can shop for almost eternity there. On the last day I still had this feeling that I didnt shop enough haha. But I seemed to be rushing around most of the day because I was with a big group. Not what I would have prefered, I'll rather shop around and then relac one corner with some coffee and internet access....

It was a fun trip...free and easy all the way (just the way I like it). I came away from it learning a few lessons as well. Some I feel are not appropriate to post on my blog but if you ask me I'll tell you la.

I stayed at Sol Twin Towers - situated in the heart of Bangkok

I visted MBK shopping centre - a huge complex selling all sorts of stuff,

Suan Lan bazaar - lousy tourist bazaar with many shopes selling the same things... imagine geylang serai village

Chatuchak Weekend Bazaar - This is the largest weekend market I have everbeen to. I estimate there must be more than a thousand stores. No kidding. A whole day wont give you enough time to walk thru every shop. They have different sections selling everything..clothing...furniture...and even pets. Some pets are really cute. Got puppies (as usual). and baby squirrels!? And some wierd creatures like snakes, snapping turtle, really tiny monkeys and some unidentifiable furry things...

And I had Thai Massage + Aroma Oil MAssage ha ha. shiok man....

anyway I've got some things to share but let me start with an interesting story...a "spiritual encounter" I had over there....

My roommate and I just finished our massage and we met another group that came in the massage parlour not too long ago. Our friend Johnny was not with them so we asked his roommate where he was. His roommate told us -"Oh, he's back at hotel swimming maybe."

So we went back to look for him to have dinner together. We stayed on the 12th flr while he stayed on the 10th...When we reached his level, i told my roommate ZY:" hey lets scare him a bit la. knock on his door at hide one corner."

So we did just that, like 2 guys deprived of a normal teenage life, laughing as we imagined Johnny's reaction. But no one ansered the door. So we tried again, this time ZY banged on the door while i covered the peephole. ZY banged a few times and even made some noises. That's when we heard the distinct sound of his toilet door opening and closing. I said to ZY," oh so now that chicken just come out of the bath room..."

We knocked a few more times but no one answered. This was when we thought i was geting strange and decided to go back to our oom to phone him. We phoned a couple of times but no one picked up. After 10 mins, we went down again and met Johnny at the corridor...

He just returned from swimming and there was no one in his room. So who was opening and closing his toilet door?? :) muhahaha....

catch up w u guys again

David

NS Life

Sawadi kap dear fren,

I have not been blogging for a long time. I guess I couldnt really find much to write about and I don't really like broadcasting what is going on in my life in my blogs. But I'm gonna do that today he he. there's always a first time for everything...

The past few weeks have been quite tiring for me. I'm serving my NS in the police force, working office hours. I know I shouldn't be complaining too much cos my ns life is what many in the SAF dream of getting. So don't see what I write as a complaint cos I really appreciate not having to book in/book out, getting to stay out, regimental life... and many other privileges of being in SPF instead of SAF. :p

A little bit of what I'm doing. I've left 6 months to ORD but people still think I'm in a camp. I'm not in a camp, I report to work at 8.30am to Police National Service Dept at Police Cantonment Complex. Everyday, from my house I take the SBS (squeezed Side-By-Side) bus to Aljunied MRT. There I make a MRT (Mad-Rush for-Train). For your info, when you are taking the ESCALATOR; If you are not in a hurry... it is common courtesy to keep to the left and leave the right side for people to hurry along. But when you are rushing for the train, there just always seems to be some completely ignorant china/bangla guy who just jams up the right lane by standing there with a dazed-cloud 9 look on his face, totally oblivious to the anxious mob behind him....grrr..

I alight at Outram and proceed to my office. I'm attached to the Support & Technical Branch of my Dept. The words "support" and "technical" are broad terms that lead to a lot of work. In another term - we kio a lot of sai gang. (Those who have gone thru NS can understand those terms and fully appreciate it's meaning ha ha) On top of manning the store, we have to help out in every major departmental events. Anything that came be deemed as providing "support" or "technical expertise" will become our job...

The past few weeks were a combination of sai-gang and duty put in one. I can recall a wed when i knocked off from work at 8pm and proceeded to patrol duty till 11.30pm. Following that, the next day I finished work at 12 midnight (due to some unforeseen major sai-gang which I'm not allwoed to mention). Fortunately my boss is really nice and he gave me an afternoon off on friday. God has really blessed me with avery good supervisor but I shall talk about that another day...

So some nights I return home and just comatose on my bed. I've missed prayer several times and one too many. So to be honest, I'm in a spiritual low. Ministry (service) should always flow out of a relationship with God. But its the other way round for me now, it's more like the needs of the ministry that drive my prayer life.

So I'm really trying to get my prayer life back. I shared this to my cell group on saturday and Sam Lim Jason said each time he called me he will remind to pray... I thot this was a good idea. It'll spur me on and keep me on the ball... So this ever comes to your mind if you meet me..u can help me by asking me if I've prayed the night b4 :) .

David

Investment

Hello! Thanks for visiting my blog again. Whenever I come to my blog and think about my week and the week ahead, I can't help but think that I'm really busy! Please pray for me, for wisdom and discipline to manage my time so that i can be effective with my life. One thing that has really stuck to me after the 40-days of purpose-driven life series is a phrase from the book " God has given us just enough time to fulfill our purpose". That sentence has really stuck in my heart and has convicted me to invest my time wisely.

Think about it: Time = Life. Our lives consists of 24 hrs a day, 30-days per month and 365 days per year. What we invest our time in, is really what we are investing our life in! What are the things that you are spending most time in? (Not counting school/work as we don't really have a choice over that!) Where you spend most of your time, will show where your passion is.

If you were given money to invest in stocks/shares, what kind of shares will you buy? Whenever stock brokers buy shares, there will one main determining factor in their decison-making. The determining factor is the returns. Stock brokers always go for stocks and shares that will yield a high return. Secure, stable and profitable companies always attract investors. They know that the value of their shares will grow, and in time they can profit from it.

In the same way, God has given to each of us time. How we spend it, is realy up to us. Are you investing your time wisely? Will your investments give you a good return? Do the things you do have lasting value and impact? It's good to spend time to reflect and evaluate on this point from time to time. I believe one of the trademarks of effective people is that they spend time in self-reflection; to evaluate their lives from time to time.

Will you allow me to bring you on a short journey through the Bible at this point?

I would like to show you something interesting and illustrate a point to you.

"ON the appointed day, Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delievered a public address to the people. They shouted, "this is the voice of a god, not of a man." Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the ord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died." ACTS 12:21-23

"For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed." ACTS 13:36

The Bible is written in such a way, that the words used to describe events/people are purposefully chosen in order to illustrate a point. Does it make you wonder why Herod death was described as having "died" while David "fell asleep"?????

From earlier accounts in the gospel, we can see that Herod was not a good man. He had his brother's wife as a lover (chu seng!) and was responsible for putting John the baptist to death. .

You see, King Herod, during his time on earth, invested his time in earthly pursuits and pleasure. He did not pursue things with eternal value. When he died, his life ended. Full-stop. All his investments were here on earth, having died he could take nothing with him. That was it. Eartlhly things have no eternal value.

Kind David's death was not the end. The Bible describes his death as though he had just fallen asleep. He invested his time to serve God's purpose and pursue things with eternal value. His greatest passion, was the pursuit of God. He was a man after God's own heart. His investments were in heaven. His rewards and returns were waiting in heaven for him!

Do you want to be Kind David, or King Herod? (stupid question right)

It might be a good time for you to slow down, and examine your investments... do they have lasting value?

Am I investing enough time to win my family and friends for Christ?

Am I building good relationships with the people around me?

Am i pursuing what God has planned for me?

Am I living my life on God's principles and values?

Some other verses for your consideration:

" Do not love the world or anything in the world...the world and it's desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." 1 John 2:15,17

"Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time" Col 4:5

David

btw: I realise my entries are quite long. Sorry bout that haha I usually just write what comes to my mind. Hope that this thots will be useful to you

Monday Blues

Ok, this is the 2nd entry in my blog on the same day. My boss gave me an off day today in repayment for working overtime during the weekend...It's quite boring to be off work on a monday cos everyone else is busy. I just sent in my electric guitar for repair, visited Uncle Leon at his shop and bought a shirt. Now I'm at home again. Anyway in continuation of the 1st blog, i hope to write something more meaningful this time (and with less typo errors)

Let me introduce more about myself: I was born on 05 Dec 1981 in Kadang Kerbau Hospital. I was told as a kid that all babies were born in KK Hospital. My parents decided to name me David Zheng Ensong. Now thats a good name but there's a small problem:

My father is Thomas Tay, my brother's name is Peter Tay but for some strange reason, I was not allowed to be named Tay. But was given the surname Zheng. (Tay is the Hokkien equivalant of Zheng). The nurse claimed that it was some government policy and so now I'm stuck with a really cheena ZHENG as my surname. But it seems that the "government policy" was applied only to me. I stlll see many 1981's with dialect surnames...

Anyhow I led a normal childhood. I grew up watching looney tunes, transformer, he-man etc. My favourite book was the Bookworm series...I attended kindergarten in Calvary Baptist Church, learnt how to count, read and take afternoon naps after lunch. (which is what I still do sometimes in my office)

My parents were ambitious (to be accurate my mother was ambitious) and had great dreams for me. Like most middle-income parents: They sent me to Yamaha music school to learn how to play the organ. In short, the organ is a synthetiser/keyboard with bass pedals. For more information, you may type "organ"in yahoo search but ignore articles about kidneys and livers and other organs of that sort.

Everything was normal except that i was almost kidnapped. My mum and dad used to warn me never to entertain strangers at the door or people who called me on the phone. After their instructional lectures, I would give them my assuring "Ok, mommy/daddy". One day, i was alone at home day-dreaming and playing with toys and the phone rang;

A young-sounding lady was on the line: "Hello, Is your mommy and daddy at home!?". Hmm...she sounds like a nice lady, most aunties were nice to me anyway.

"No, my mommy and daddy are not at home."

"Ok, what is your name?"

"My name is David Zheng."

"Oh ok,hi david, I'm calling from the registration counter at Joo Seng CC. do you know where that is?"

"Yes."

"David, do you know that your mommy has signed you up for organ lessons here? Lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday 4-5pm. Many other kids are joining the class too! Can you come down to the counter now for your lessons? Maybe your mommy will be here to meet with you"

"Ok. But my mommy has already signed me up for organ lessons at Yamaha on saturday afternoon from 10-11am. Why did she sign me up for another one?"

"oh..ah...erm(panicky voice)...maybe she wants you to um...take more lessons..erm never mind i will call your mommy again ok? bye bye"

Hmm...why did nice young auntie change her mind about my lessons? I put down the phone and continued with whatever 8-year old males do in their free time.

Well, thinking back on this incident, I thought it must have been God's mercy on my family. Sending me to those organ lessons not only gave me a start in music but might have just been's God's plan to save my family from going through a traumatic experience. (and paying $$$ to my kidnappers). The potential kidnappers must have noticed me going to the CC for art lessons and somehow got my particulars. I never realised this was a kidnap attempt until years later when i recalled this incident.

It just adds to my conviction that God is personally and sovereignly involved in the lives of every human. Sometimes, events in our lives may seem to be a result of human decison but may be in fact, part of God's plan for our lives.

I hope you've enjoyed reading this 2nd blog entry. I'm going to take a break now phew...

David

First ever entry

Hi there, welcome to my first entry in my first ever blog. Actually I'm not a blogging type of person. I ave never even written a diary in my entire life! One of the homework i dislike most was journaling. I thot that was really tough. I had to pen down everything i did for that project everyday and you know wat was the problem? I would procrastinate writing it and eventually i had to write down a week's worth of journal in day. It was tough trying to recall wat i did 5 or 6 days ago, most of the time i just made up a story of my week's work on the project.

So anyway, I've caught the blogging bug. There doesnt seem to be much do on the net besides chatting on msn, checking mails, friendster and wholivesnearyou.com anyway.

I'll probably be sharing some thoughts and stories that have touched my heart during the week or something. Ha ha i hope this wont be my first and last entry too...I can foresee this blog will be neglected sometimes when i'm busy.

Ok, i've got some stories to share but I'll keep them for future blogs. Lets talk about SOCCER!

Almost every guy's favourite sport and every girl's mystery; what's so interesting about 22 men chasing after a single ball?

Well this is what i think about soccer:

1. Its a great form of exercise

You may think that soccer just involves running. But you are so wrong. It involves the use of the arms (for pushing people away). The neck muscles (for heading the ball). The abs muscles (for twisting and turning.) and lungs (for shouting at people). It trains you judgement of a moving ball, you've got to know where to position yourself to head the ball. Now how useful is that in real life? None at all!

So you can see its a whole body workout!

2. It's a great way to bond

Girls go shopping and play barbie doll to bond but guys bond thru meaningful activities like LAN gaming; (trying to kill one another in a virtual world, ha ha) and competitive sport...

Soccer is a game that involves teamwork. You have to work as a team to defend and attack the opposition goal. That involves communication and understanding between every player. That understanding between each player... can only be built over time. Guys may not not talk very much but after a game of soccer together everyone opens up. Though sometimes the opposite happens when the team loses....

3. Soccer is an inexpensive way to have fun

Once you get the hang of kicking a ball and other people kicking your legs...you'll begin to enjoy the beautiful game. And it's so inexpensive! (Minus the $$$ you pay for your adidas beckham predator mania boots, the almost bullet-proof shin guards and authentic club jerseys!)

Ok, I know I've probably wrote lots of nonsense but i hope it's entertaining to read what I've written. It's just a light-hearted reflection on a game I love to play. I promise I'll write something more meaningful next time! C ya!

David
